This guide demonstrates the proper technique for wrapping a sprained ankle using an elastic bandage. This method helps to reduce swelling and provide support.

Step 1: Start the Wrap
Begin by holding the rolled bandage in one hand. Place the loose end of the bandage on the top of the foot, just behind the toes. Wrap the bandage once around the ball of the foot to anchor it.
Step 2: Create the Figure-Eight
From the starting anchor, pull the bandage diagonally across the top of the foot and then around the back of the ankle. This creates the first half of a "figure-eight" pattern.
Step 3: Complete the Pattern and Continue Up
Bring the bandage down from the ankle and cross it over the top of the foot again to complete the figure-eight. Continue this crisscross pattern, moving up towards the calf and covering the heel, overlapping each layer by about half of the bandage's width.
Step 4: Finish and Check Circulation
Once you've wrapped several inches above the ankle joint, secure the end of the bandage with the provided clips or adhesive tape. Finally, you must check for proper circulation. Gently press on a toenail; the color should turn white and then quickly return to pink. If it stays white or turns blue, the wrap is too tight and must be loosened immediately.
Remember: An elastic bandage should provide snug compression but never cut off blood flow. If you experience numbness, tingling, increased pain, or coolness in the toes, remove the bandage and rewrap it more loosely.
